Vanuatu Co-operatives Business Network –  Port Vila, Efate

Job Description


The Vanuatu Cooperatives Business Network (VCBN) is the business and investment arm of the Department of Vanuatu Cooperatives and Ni-Vanuatu Business under the Ministry of Trade. The department operates under the Vanuatu Cooperatives Societies Act and the Cooperatives Societies Rules. The VCBN is assisting the productive sector through creation of business networking and linkages to connect local cooperative businesses to potential sellers and buyers of locally produced goods.

The VCBN notes the importance of conducting a scoping study to identify local food and beverage industries and factories. The study will assess production capacities and capabilities to process local foods and beverage. Results of the study will assist Government to improve its services through the cooperative businesses, specifically to:

i. improve connectivity between different government entities
ii. connect farmers and producers to their cooperatives;
iii. connect cooperatives to processors and conversely processors to cooperatives and other market outlets to sell locally produced value-added products; and
iv. assess potential external markets to buy locally processed products;

The scoping will be conducted at locations to be decided by the Department of Vanuatu Cooperatives and Vanuatu Cooperatives Business Network.\

The VCBN intends to hire a local consultant to undertake the scoping work on its behalf. The work entails desktop study and field or face to face interviews with industries and factories in the identified areas. The consultant will prepare a report at the end of the assessment based on specific outputs or deliverables.

Eligibility criteria for consultant

To be eligible for this work you will:
a. be a Ni-Vanuatu
b. hold a recognised qualification or degree in food processing
c. be familiar with the food and beverage industry in Vanuatu
d. have at least 10 years’ experience in the food and beverage industry
e. have sound knowledge of GMP and HACCP systems.
